Howl is a blue Growlithe that befriended a Poochyena that had been released into the wild after years of captivity, Howl took the Poochyena under his wing since the Poochyena had no survival experience due to being born in captivity.

Howl is laid back but not exactly friendly when it comes to humans and Pokemon that are closely tied to humans, his dislike comes from a life of being attacked and having the humans attempt to capture him. His Poochyena companion is an exception that he chalks up to a combination of loneliness and whims.
